Today's scores and summaries:

Indians 3, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
Bert Blyleven was in complete control, permitting only four hits and recording his fourth straight complete game as the Indians scalped the White Sox, 3-1. The game was tied, 1-1, when Bo Diaz singled to begin the seventh inning and Joe Charboneau followed with a two-run homer.

Rangers 9, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Bump Wills collected four hits, knocked in three runs and scored another to pace the Rangers to a 9-1 rout of the Royals, Kansas City's fourth straight loss. Texas tallied three times in the third inning on a run-scoring single by Mickey Rivers and two-run double by Buddy Bell. Rick Honeycutt, pitching the first seven frames, raised his record to 3-0.

Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 6 at Toronto (night game):
Gary Allenson drove in five runs including the game-winner in the ninth inning, and Rick Miller tied a major league record with four doubles as the Red Sox outlasted the Blue Jays, 7-6. With two outs in the ninth and the score 6-6, Miller doubled and scored on a double by Allenson. The Jays had knotted the count in the seventh on a solo homer by Willie Upshaw. Allenson stroked a two-run single in the second inning and another two-run single in the third.

Braves 3, Pirates 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Bruce Benedict's two-out single in the 10th inning drove home Chris Chambliss to give the Braves a 3-2 triumph over the Pirates and hand Pittsburgh reliever Kent Tekulve his second loss this season and ninth straight setback over the last two seasons. Chambliss stroked a one-out single to start the uprising. After Glenn Hubbard coaxed a walk from Tekulve, Benedict clubbed the winning hit. The Braves had deadlocked the contest in the sixth on a solo homer by Hubbard.

Astros 5, Reds 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
With Nolan Ryan going the route for the first time in five starts this season, the Astros breezed to a 5-0 blanking of the Reds. The fireballing righthander spaced seven hits and struck out 11 while recording his 45th career shutout and raising his strikeout total to 3,148, third on the all-time list. It was the 133rd time he had struck out at least 10 batters in one game. The Astros scored three runs in the first inning on a run-scoring double by Cesar Cedeno, RBI single by Art Howe and bases-loaded walk to Alan Ashby. Jose Cruz cracked a two-run homer in the fifth.
