Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 15, Tigers 1 at California (night game):
Driving in five runs with a homer, double and single, Bobby Clark led a 15-hit barrage as the Angels administered a 15-1 thrashing to the Tigers. Clark tied the game at 1-1 with his round-tripper in the second inning, doubled home two runs to make the score 4-1 in the third and singled home two runs in a five-run eighth. Don Baylor belted a three-run homer in the sixth and Bobby Grich blasted a two-run circuit clout later in that frame.

White Sox 3, Royals 0 at Chicago (day game):
Richard Dotson tossed a five-hitter for his second consecutive shutout as the White Sox triumphed over the Royals, 3-0. The Sox scored in the second inning when Harold Baines drew a two-out walk, stole second and came home on a single by Jim Morrison. They tallied twice in the fourth frame on a walk to Wayne Nordhagen, run-scoring triple by Baines and sacrifice fly by Morrison.

Indians 2, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Escaping a rundown play with two out in the top of the 10th inning, Jorge Orta raced home with the winning run as the Indians shaded the Twins, 2-1. After the Twins tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth on back-to-back triples by John Castino and Mickey Hatcher, Orta opened the 10th with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Mike Hargrove. Don Cooper then relieved Pete Redfern on the hill for the Twins and struck out Andre Thornton. Pinch-hitter Miguel Dilone beat out an infield hit. Orta raced around third base on the play but pulled up 10 feet short of home when he saw catcher Sal Butera with the ball. In the ensuing rundown, shortstop Chuck Baker flipped the ball toward the plate but nobody was there to handle it and Orta scored.

A's 6, Brewers 5 at Oakland (day game):
A wild pitch allowed the winning run to score as the A's rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 12th inning to prevail over the Brewers, 6-5. The Brewers went ahead, 5-4, in the top of the 12th on a sacrifice fly by Ben Oglivie. Dave Revering, whose eighth-inning homer had tied the score at 4-4, started the winning surge with a single and, after Tony Armas struck out, moved to third on a single by Wayne Gross and scored on a single by Mike Heath. Shooty Babbit then grounded into a forceout and the Brewers walked Jeff Newman intentionally to load the bases. On the first serve to Rob Picciolo, Randy Lerch uncorked a wild pitch and Gross came in with the winning run.

Mariners 6, Yankees 5 at Seattle (night game):
Performing ninth-inning heroics for the second consecutive night, Tom Paciorek hit a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mariners a 6-5 triumph over the Yankees. The Mariners trailed, 5-3, with one out in the bottom of the ninth, when pinch-hitter Dan Meyer and Julio Cruz singled. One out later, Paciorek drilled a 2-1 pitch into the stands to give new manager Rene Lachemann his fourth straight victory without a defeat. Reggie Jackson had tied the game with a two-run double in the sixth and put the Yankees ahead, 5-3, with a two-run homer in the eighth.

[DH] Orioles 7, Rangers 3 (night game) / Orioles 4, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
The Orioles swept a doubleheader from the Rangers, unleashing a 14-hit attack to win the opener, 7-3, and capturing the nightcap, 4-2. The Birds took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the first game on a homer by Dan Graham and made it 3-0 in the fourth on a two-run single by Gary Roenicke. They added another pair in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Lenn Sakata and RBI groundout by Wayne Krenchicki, and two more in the ninth on run-scoring singles by Ken Singleton and Graham. Steve Stone yielded just one hit in six innings in the second game before leaving because of stiffness in his elbow. Terry Crowley broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth frame with an RBI single and Sakata stroked a run-scoring single in the fifth. An RBI double by Mark Belanger made it 3-0 in the seventh and Doug DeCinces drove in Baltimore's final run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Red Sox 10, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (day game):
Pounding out 13 hits, the Red Sox enjoyed a 10-3 romp over the Blue Jays. The Sox scored in the first inning when Jim Rice grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and added three more runs in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk and a two run single by Dwight Evans. Rice belted a solo homer in the seventh and Evans clouted a three-run round-tripper in the eighth.

Cubs 7, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Rick Reuschel, surrendering just one hit over six innings before leaving because of stiffness in his arm, received credit for his first victory of the season as the Cubs defeated the Braves, 7-3. The Cubs took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring single by Bill Buckner and two-run homer by Steve Henderson, and upped the margin to 7-0 in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Reuschel, RBI double by Ivan DeJesus, sacrifice fly by Scot Thompson and run-scoring double by Buckner.

Reds 9, Astros 5 at Cincinnati (day game):
Jumping off for three runs in the first inning, the Reds went on to a 9-5 decision over the Astros as Bruce Berenyi, going 8 2/3 innings, notched his third victory of the season. The Reds scored in the opening frame on a two-run double by George Foster and run-scoring single by Johnny Bench. Bench also drilled his 358th career homer with a mate aboard in the sixth stanza to tie Yogi Berra for ninth place on the all-time list.

Giants 8, Expos 2 at Montreal (day game):
Driving in six runs, four with a bases-loaded homer, Bill North led the Giants to an 8-2 triumph over the Expos as Vida Blue went the route in scattering seven hits. North put the Giants ahead, 2-1, in the fifth inning wth a two-run double that followed a two-out double by Johnnie LeMaster and walk to Blue. North's grand slam, the first of his career, came in the seventh.

Mets 7, Dodgers 4 at New York (day game):
A three-run uprising in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Mets to a 7-4 triumph over the Dodgers. After Pedro Guerrero's second homer of the game, a two-run shot, had tied the score in the top of the eighth, Hubie Brooks began the winning rally with a single in the bottom of the frame and raced to third on a single by Rusty Staub. After Bob Bailor was inserted as a pinch-runner for Staub and Steve Howe replaced Bobby Castillo as the Dodgers pitcher, Alex Trevino rapped a single to score Brooks with the go-ahead run. When Doug Flynn bunted, third baseman Ron Cey, trying for the forceout at second, threw the ball into center field and Bailor scored the second run of the inning, Trevino reaching third and Flynn second on the play. Pinch-hitter John Stearns was intentionally walked to fill the sacks and, one out later, Frank Taveras closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Phillies 9, Padres 6 at Philadelphia (night game):
Steve Carlton raised his record to 6-0 and notched his 255th career victory and 3,025th strikeout -- fifth on the all-time list -- as the Phillies defeated the Padres, 9-6. The Phils tallied four runs in the first inning on a three-run homer by Gary Matthews and a solo round-tripper by Garry Maddox. They added a run in the fourth on a triple by Maddox and double by Larry Bowa and made it 6-0 in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Matthews.

Cardinals 13, Pirates 0 at St. Louis (night game):
The Cardinals drubbed the Pirates, 13-0, but it was a pyrrhic victory as Andy Rincon, who had pitched three-hit ball for 7 2/3 innings and contributed to the 14-hit attack with two hits and three RBIs, suffered a hairline fracture on his right forearm when struck by a line drive off the bat of Phil Garner and was placed on the 21-day disabled list. The Redbirds took a 5-0 lead in the first inning on run-scoring singles by George Hendrick and Ken Oberkfell and a three-run double by Tommy Herr.
