Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 4, Twins 0 at California (night game):
Capturing his first A.L. decision, Ken Forsch unfurled a six-hitter as the Angels blanked the Twins, 4-0. Dan Ford cracked a solo homer in the first inning and Tom Brunansky clouted a bases-empty blast in the second.

Red Sox 8, White Sox 5 at Chicago (day game):
Four hits by Carney Lansford and three by Rick Miller led a 14-hit attack that carried the Red Sox to an 8-5 victory over the White Sox. Lansford blasted a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Bosox a 2-0 lead and Miller collected an RBI single later in the same frame.

Orioles 3, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
A three-run eruption in the eighth inning lifted the Orioles to a 3-2 triumph over the Royals. The Birds trailed, 2-0, when they loaded the bases in the top of the eighth on singles by Gary Roenicke, pinch-hitter Terry Crwoley and Al Bumbry. Dan Quisenberry relieved starter Dennis Leonard on the hill for K.C. and yielded a two-run double to Rich Dauer. After Ken Singleton received an intentional walk, Eddie Murray delivered a sacrifice fly.

A's 16, Mariners 1 at Oakland (night game):
A record Oakland Coliseum crowd of 50,255 saw the undefeated A's win their ninth straight game, 16-1 over the Mariners. Tony Armas led an 18-hit attack with two homers, a double and five RBIs. The A's sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning and tallied five markers, including back-to-back homers by Dwayne Murphy and Cliff Johnson.

Yankees 2, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
Making his first 1981 plate appearance, Reggie Jackson drilled a two-run double in the first inning to provide all the needed scoring as the Yankees edged the Rangers, 2-1.

Tigers 8, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (day game):
Scoring four runs in their first turn at the plate, the Tigers recorded an 8-5 decision over the Blue Jays. In Detroit's first, Alan Trammell walked and scored on a double by Steve Kemp, who tallied on a single by Champ Summers. Kirk Gibson then capped the outburst with a round-tripper. The Tigers also scored four runs in the sixth stanza on a run-scoring double by Lance Parrish, RBI single by Lou Whitaker and two-run single by Trammell.

Giants 6, Braves 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Facing his 1980 team for the first time since being traded during the offseason, Doyle Alexander combined with Greg Minton to pitch the Giants to a 6-2 triumph over the Braves. The Giants broke on top on a two-run single by Larry Herndon in the first inning and added a run in the third on an RBI single by Darrell Evans.

Cardinals 9, Reds 5 at Cincinnati (night game):
Jumping on Cincinnati starter Mike LaCoss for four runs in the first inning before a single batter was retired, the Cardnals rolled over the Reds, 9-5. Garry Templeton opened the game with a two-bagger and went to third on an infield hit by Ken Oberkfell. First baseman Dan Driessen let a Keith Hernandez grounder go through him for an error, Templeton and Oberkfell scoring on the play and Hernandez reaching third. George Hendrick and Darrell Porter then lashed consecutive doubles.

Pirates 4, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
Rick Rhoden, getting ninth-inning help from Grant Jackson and Enrique Romo, pitched the Pirates to a 4-3 decision over the Astros. The Bucs snapped a 1-1 tie in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Vance Law and made it 3-1 in the fifth on an RBI single by Bill Madlock. A sacrifice fly by Dave Parker plated the final Pittsburgh tally in the seventh.

Phillies 6, Cubs 2 at Philadelphia (night game):

The score was 2-2 when Gene Richards opened the bottom of the 10th by reaching first safely on an error by L.A. shortstop Bill Russell. Ozzie Smith sacrificed Richards to second before Ruppert Jones followed with a walk and Broderick Perkins stroked a single to plate Richards with the game-winner.
