Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Royals 3 at Baltimore (day game):
Solo homers by Ken Singleton and Rick Dempsey provided the victory margin as the Orioles downed the Royals, 5-3, in the season opener for both teams. Singleton's shot came in the first inning and Dempsey's came in the sixth to give the Birds a 5-3 lead. An error by Royals left fielder Amos Otis opened the gates for a two-run Baltimore rally in the fifth frame. After Al Bumbry drew a two-out walk, Otis dropped Rich Dauer's routine fly. Consecutve walks to Singleton, Eddie Murray and Doug DeCinces then forced home two tallies.

White Sox 5, Red Sox 3 at Boston (day game):
A three-run homer by Carlton Fisk sparked the White Sox to a 5-3 season-opening triumph over the Red Sox. The Chisox trailed, 2-0, in the eighth when pinch-hitter Bob Molinaro drew a leadoff walk and reached second on a single by Ron LeFlore. Mike Squires sacrificed the runners along and Fisk then delivered the big blast against his former teammates. The White Sox added another pair of tallies in the ninth on two singles, an error and an RBI infield out.

A's 6, Twins 3 at Minnesota (day game):
Overcoming early shakiness, Rick Langford went the route on a five-hitter as the A's won their second straight game over the Twins, 6-3. The game was tied, 3-3, in the fourth inning when Rickey Henderson walked and registered on a triple by Dwayne Murphy. Tony Armas drilled a solo homer in the fifth to make it 5-3 and Mike Heath stroked a run-scoring single in the seventh to complete the scoring. Minnesota threatened in the sixth with runners on first and second and no outs. But second baseman Brian Doyle employed the hidden ball trick and tagged out Glenn Adams at second base. A double play then ended the inning.

Mariners 10, Angels 2 at Seattle (night game):
A four-run outburst in the second inning propelled the Mariners to a 10-2 triumph over the Angels as Jerry Don Gleaton, getting relief help from Mike Parrott, received credit for his first major league victory. Seattle's second-inning tallies came on an RBI single by Tom Paciorek, two-run single by Julio Cruz and sacrifice fly by Joe Simpson. Rick Auerbach doubled home a run in the sixth and Richie Zisk hit his first home run as a Mariner in the seventh.

Braves 5, Reds 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Gunning for their first Opening Day victory since 1971 and only their third home-opening triumph since the club moved to Atlanta in 1966, the Braves used a four-run explosion in the eighth inning to post a 5-3 win over the Reds. Chris Chambliss ripped an opposite field double into the left field corner to erase a 2-1 Cincinnati lead. After Tom Hume replaced Joe Price on the mound for the Reds, Dale Murphy then slammed a two-run homer.

Padres 4, Giants 2 at San Francisco (night game):
Rookie second baseman Juan Bonilla had two hits, drove in two runs and scored another to pace the Padres to their second straight decision over the Giants, 4-2. Bonilla tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh and knocked in an insurance tally with a ninth-inning sacrifice fly. The Padres snapped a 2-2 tie in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Dave Edwards.
