Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 5, Indians 4 at Cleveland (night game):
The Tigers recorded their fifth straight victory, 5-4 over the Indians. After the Tribe grabbed a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning on Jerry Dybzinski's two-run double, the Tigers came back in the eighth. Steve Kemp opened with a single and took second on a one-out pinch-single by Richie Hebner. A single by Tom Brookens plated Kemp and sent Hebner to third, before a groundout by Champ Summers produced the winning run.

Twins 4, Royals 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Striking out 15, Jerry Koosman pitched the Twins to a 4-1 victory over the Royals. The Twins scored three times in the third inning on an RBI single by Butch Wynegar and two-run homer by Roy Smalley. The final Twins tally came in the eighth on a run-scoring single by John Castino.

Red Sox 7, Yankees 2 at New York (night game):
Tony Perez drove in two runs and triggered a four-run, fifth-inning outburst with a two-out triple to spark the Red Sox to a 7-2 triumph over the Yankees. Perez drove in a run with an infield out in the third inning to put the Sox ahead, 2-1, and doubled home another tally in the sixth. In the fifth, Perez tripled and scored on a single by Butch Hobson. Carl Yastrzemski then drilled a two-run homer. Dwight Evans continued the attack on Ron Guidry with a two-bagger and scored on Glenn Hoffman's triple.

Brewers 8, A's 0 at Oakland (night game):
Jim Gantner belted a grand slam while driving in six runs to lead the Brewers to an 8-0 whitewashing of the A's. Gantner climaxed a six-run outburst in the sixth inning with his bases-loaded smash, his first round-tripper of the year and first career grand slam. In the second frame, Gantner's run-scoring single gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead and, in the eighth, his RBI single boosted the Brewers' advantage to 8-0.

Dodgers 3, Astros 0 at Houston (night game):
Rick Sutcliffe pitched a three-hitter and drove in two runs to lead the Dodgers to a 3-0 blanking of the Astros. L.A. scored all its runs in the fifth inning. Steve Garvey opened with a single and, one out later following a walk to Ron Cey, came home on a double by Bill Russell. After Steve Yeager walked to load the bases, Sutcliffe bounced a two-run single to center.

Cardinals 6, Pirates 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Homers by Ted Simmons and George Hendrick supported the seven-hit pitching of Jim Kaat as the Cardinals captured a 6-1 decision over the Pirates. Simmons broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer in the sixth inning and Hendrick belted a three-run round-tripper in the eighth.
