Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 10, Indians 2 at California (night game):
Joe Rudi hit two homers, driving in four runs, to clinch the Angels' 10-2 victory over the Indians in the season opener before a crowd of 37,085.

White Sox 8, Orioles 4 at Chicago (day game):
The White Sox tagged Mike Flanagan, the A.L.'s 1979 Cy Young Award winner, for seven runs in 5 2/3 innings, including five runs on two homers, to defeat the Orioles, 8-4.

Royals 4, Tigers 0 at Kansas City (night game):
Larry Gura pitched a shutout and Pete LaCock had a hand in all of the Royals' scoring in a 4-0 victory over the Tigers. The Royals gave Gura the only run he needed when Hal McRae singled, John Wathan walked and LaCock singled to ruin Dan Schatzeder's A.L. debut with the Tigers.

A's 1, Twins 0 at Oakland (night game):
Matt Keough, who lost his first 14 decisions last year, got off to a winning start in the new season, pitching the A's to a 1-0 victory over the Twins. Keough came out ahead in a four-hit duel with Pete Redfern when Rob Picciolo singled and Rickey Henderson tripled in the ninth inning.

Blue Jays 10, Mariners 7 at Seattle (night game):
A one-man show by Rodney Craig, who accounted for five RBIs, enabled the Mariners to extend the game to 11 innings before losing to the Blue Jays, 10-7, Craig knocked in a run with a single in the third, drove in two with a double in the seventh and tied the score at 7-7 with a two-run homer in the ninth.

Rangers 11, Yankees 7 at Texas (night game):
Rusty Staub smashed his first homer in a Texas uniform, plus a double and single, as the Rangers piled up 16 hits to defeat the Yankees, 11-7. The Yankees built up a 6-1 lead with the aid of a two-run homer by Bob Watson and three-run drive by Oscar Gamble before the Rangers rallied for six runs in their half of the fifth.

Reds 6, Braves 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Posting their second straight shutout, the Reds defeated the Braves, 6-0, in a game stopped by rain in the top half of the seventh inning. Mike LaCoss, who yielded seven hits in pitching the shutout, followed the example of Frank Pastore, who blanked the Braves in the season opener. The Reds scored five runs in the first inning, knocking out Larry McWilliams before the Braves' lefty starter could retire anyone. The big blow of the frame was a two-run homer by George Foster.

Astros 10, Dodgers 6 at Houston (night game):
A homer by Craig Reynolds, who did not hit any last season, helped the Astros come from behind to defeat the Dodgers, 10-6. The Astros, who were trailing, 6-3, whittled their deficit with a two-run double by Alan Ashby in the seventh inning. Reynolds then hit his homer in the eighth to tie the score, sparking a five-run outburst by the Astros. After Reynolds' rap, the Astros went on to load the bases and Luis Pujols supplied the game-winning blow with a two-run double.

Cubs 7, Mets 5 at New York (day game):
The Cubs uncorked a five-homer barrage, including two by Dave Kingman, to defeat the Mets, 7-5. Kingman drove in four runs with his clouts. Jerry Martin rapped a pair of solo shots and Lenny Randle added another.

Phillies 6, Expos 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Phillies gained their first season-opening victory since 1974, defeating the Expos, 6-3, before a crowd of 48,460. Greg Luzinski started the Phils off to their triumph with a three-run homer in the first inning. Garry Maddox and Mike Schmidt walked with two out before Luzinski whacked his drive off Steve Rogers. A mental lapse by the Expos on a rundown play enabled Larry Bowa to score in the fourth inning before the Phils completed their scoring with a pair of tainted tallies in the seventh. Gary Carter hit a two-run homer for the Expos.

Padres 5, Giants 3 at San Diego (night game):
Darrell Evans committed three errors at third base in one inning, tying the N. L. record for his position and resulting in the Giants losing to the Padres, 5-3. With the Giants leading, 3-2, Ozzie Smith drew a walk to open the seventh. Dave Cash hit a grounder to Evans, who fumbled the ball for one error and then threw wildly, allowing Smith to score the tying run and Cash to reach third. Gene Richards followed with a grounder to Evans, which he again booted, but Cash held third. Dave Winfield then forced Richards at second as Cash scored the run that broke the tie.

Pirates 4, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (night game):
With two out in the ninth inning, Ed Ott drove in two runs with a single to give the Pirates a 4-3 victory over the Cardinals. Both runs were unearned as the result of an error by Garry Templeton, who bobbled a grounder by Dave Parker to open the inning. Willie Stargell walked and, after Mark Littell relieved Don Hood, Bill Robinson sacrificed and Bill Madlock grounded out before Ott rapped his winning hit.
