Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 1, Twins 0 at Chicago (night game):
After flirting with a no-hitter, Ken Kravec settled for a three-hitter as the White Sox posted a 1-0 victory over the Twins in 10 innings. Kravec held the Twins hitless until a leadoff double by Ron Jackson in the eighth. The White Sox scored after Ken Bell led off the 10th with a single. Pinch-runner Alan Bannister advanced to third on a single by Mike Squires and raced home on a single by Thad Bosley.

Indians 16, Yankees 3 at Cleveland (night game):
Combining for four homers and nine RBIs, Cliff Johnson and Toby Harrah paced the Indians to a 16-3 rout of the Yankees. Harrah's solo blast and Johnson's two-run shot gave the Tribe a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Harrah connected for a three-run round-tripper to highlight an eight-run outburst in the fourth and Johnson added a three-run swat in the fifth.

Tigers 2, Orioles 1 at Detroit (night game):
With Ron LeFlore driving in both runs, the Tigers edged the Orioles, 2-1. LeFlore clouted a solo homer in the third inning. The deciding run in the seventh was unearned. Tom Brookens singled and reached second when Oriole first baseman Eddie Murray failed to handle a pickoff throw by Mike Flanagan. After a sacrifice bunt by Aurelio Rodriguez, Brookens scored on a grounder by LeFlore. Doug DeCinces homered for the Orioles' run in the eighth.

Angels 6, Royals 4 at Kansas City (night game):
Jumping off for four runs in the first inning, the Angels went on to a 6-4 triumph over the Royals. Rod Carew and Carney Lansford walked to open the game and Dan Ford delivered the first run with a single. A sacrifice fly by Don Baylor, double by Willie Aikens and single by Bobby Grich each added one run. The Angels tallied twice for their winning margin in the sixth. Baylor tripled and scored on a single by Willie Davis, who had entered the game as a pinch-runner in the first for Aikens after his slide at second resulted in an injury. Davis later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jim Anderson.

Rangers 9, A's 5 at Oakland (night game):
Al Oliver drove in three runs, scored twice and collected four hits to lead the Rangers to a 9-5 victory over the A's before only 750 fans, the second lowest attendance in the history of the Oakland franchise. Oliver doubled home two tallies to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead in the third inning and added a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Brewers 7, Mariners 6 at Seattle (night game):
Steady relief pitching by Jerry Augustine enabled the Brewers to come from behind and edge the Mariners, 7-6. The Brewers broke a 6-6 tie in the eighth inning when Sixto Lezcano doubled and scored on a single by Paul Molitor. Augustine, with relief help from Bill Castro, blanked the Mariners overthe final seven innings after they had raced to a 6-2 lead.

Red Sox 8, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
A four-run outburst in the fourth inning triggered the Red Sox to an 8-3 victory over the Blue Jays. Jim Rice singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, took third on an infield out and scored on an error by Jay shortstop Alfredo Griffin. After Jim Dwyer singled, Dwight Evans climaxed the frame with a three-run homer.

Dodgers 6, Braves 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Jerry Reuss pitched a four-hitter to lead the Dodgers to a 6-1 victory over the Braves. The Dodgers broke game the open in the fifth inning when singles by Dusty Baker, Joe Ferguson and Pedro Guerrero loaded the bases and Derrel Thomas followed with a two-run double. Guerrero scored on a squeeze bunt by Reuss. Bob Horner homered for the Braves' run.

Pirates 5, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
A two-run homer by Willie Stargell in the 11th inning lifted the Pirates to a 5-3 triumph over the Expos in a game that was twice delayed by rain, the second time for two hours and 54 minutes after the fifth inning. Mike Easler led off the Bucs' 11th with a pinch-single and Willie Stargell followed with a circuit clout. The victory boosted the Pirates two games ahead of the Expos in the East division race. The game was played under protest by Montreal manager Dick Williams, who argued after the first rain delay, which lasted nine minutes in the bottom of the fifth, that the umpires should not have started play again while it still was raining. The crowd of 56,976 brought the attendance for the two-game series to 111,585.

[DH] Cubs 2, Mets 0 (night game) / Cubs 2, Mets 1 at New York (night game):
With Dave Kingman driving home the winning runs in both games, the Cubs swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Mets, 2-0 and 2-1 in 11 innings. Kingman stroked a two-run single with two out in the third inning of the opener and delivered a run-scoring single in the 11th frame of the nightcap. The winning run in the second game followed a single by Bill Buckner, a sacrifice and a groundout. Bruce Sutter picked up a save in both ends to boost his season's total to 37, tying the N.L. record set by Clay Carroll of the Reds in 1972 and equalled by Rollie Fingers of the Padres in 1978.

Padres 4, Astros 0 at San Diego (night game):
Eric Rasmussen scattered six hits and pitched the Padres to a 4-0 victory over the Astros. The Padres picked up a run in the fourth on a double by Dave Winfield and single by Jay Johnstone and added two more in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Winfield and run-scoring single by Johnstone. A sacrifice fly by Gene Richards in the seventh produced the final tally.

Evans stroked a run-scoring single in the first inning and then singled and scored on a single by Johnnie LeMaster in the sixth. The Giants registered their other run in the third when Bill North singled, went from first to third on an infield out and came home on a single by Mike Ivie. The Reds had a homer by Johnny Bench.

Phillies 5, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Pushing across pair of runs in the 10th inning, the Phillies downed the Cardinals, 5-3. Manny Trillo drilled a leadoff double and moved to third on a safe bunt by Bake McBride. One out later, a sacrifice fly by Greg Gross scored Trillo with the tie-breaking run. McBride took second on the throw to the plate and scored an insurance marker on a single by Garry Maddox.
