Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 6, Orioles 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
A grand slam by Johnny Briggs in the first inning started the Brewers off to a 6-0 victory over the Orioles. Robin Yount walked, George Scott singled and Don Money beat out a bunt to load the bases for Briggs' homer off Doyle Alexander. A triple by Bob Coluccio and sacrifice fly by Tim Johnson added a run in the second and the Brewers posted their final marker in the third when Darrell Porter, after reaching base on an error, stole second and came home on a single by Mike Hegan. Ed Sprague was within two outs of a complete-game shutout before giving way to Tom Murphy after Tommy Davis doubled and Bobby Grich walked in the ninth. Murphy retired the last two batters.

Twins 3, White Sox 2 at Minnesota (night game):
A three-run homer by Tony Oliva in the eighth inning beat Wilbur Wood and carried the Twins to a 3-2 victory over the White Sox. Bill Sharp homered for the White Sox in the seventh inning to give Wood a 1-0 lead, but Steve Brye opened the Twins' eighth with a safe bunt. Rod Carew singled and Oliva hit his homer. The White Sox scored a run in the ninth on a walk to Sharp, single by Ed Herrmann and forceout by Pat Kelly before Bill Campbell saved the game for Ray Corbin.

A's 4, Royals 0 at Oakland (night game):
Ending his personal three-game losing streak, Catfish Hunter allowed only five hits and pitched the Athletics to a 4-0 victory over the Royals. The A's were held in check by Al Fitzmorris until they scored two runs in the sixth inning. Bert Campaneris, back in the lineup after missing seven games with a hand injury, singled, stole second and moved to third on an infield out. After Reggie Jackson walked, Campaneris scored on a grounder by Joe Rudi and Jackson crossed the plate on a single by Deron Johnson. Another single by Johnson and homer by Dick Green added the final pair in the eighth.

Rangers 7, Angels 4 at Texas (night game):
Pinch-hitter Tom Grieve came through with a three-run double in the eighth inning to give the Rangers a 7-4 victory over the Angels. Jeff Burroughs and Jim Spencer singled and Lenny Randle walked to fill the bases before Grieve came to the plate and delivered his double to put the Rangers ahead, 6-4. Toby Harrah followed with another double to add an extra run.

Cubs 3, Pirates 0 at Chicago (day game):
Although tagged for 12 hits, Rick Reuschel was able to post a shutout, pitching the Cubs to a 3-0 victory over the Pirates. The Cubs were held to six hits by Dock Ellis, but they included homers by Jose Cardenal in the second inning and Billy Williams in the fifth. The Cubs also scored another run in the second. Rick Monday singled, took second after Bill Madlock flied out and crossed the plate on a single by Andre Thornton.

Mets 2, Phillies 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Rusty Staub drove in two runs in the fifth inning with the 300th double of his major league career to enable the Mets to defeat the Phillies, 2-1. The Phils collected 11 hits off Jerry Koosman, but scored only in the first on a single by Dave Cash, sacrifice by Larry Bowa and single by Mike Anderson. Dick Ruthven limited the Mets to five hits, but was pinned with the loss when Wayne Garrett walked, Cleon Jones singled and Staub doubled in the fifth.
