A triple by Thurman Munson and single by Bobby Murcer in the 11th inning gave the Yankees a 2-1 victory over the White Sox. Steve Kline pitched the entire route and yielded only a run on a homer by Ed Herrmann in the second inning. A single by Munson, walk to Murcer and wild throw by Bill Melton on a grounder by Danny Cater allowed the Yankees to tie the score in the fourth.
Angels 5, Indians 2 at Cleveland (day game):
Rich Hand, who had been on the disabled list, made his first appearance of the season, pitching in relief, and got a rough reception when the Angels scored four runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Indians, 5-2. Hand retired the first two batters, but then Roger Repoz homered to break a 1-1 tie. Ken McMullen and John Stephenson followed with singles and both scored on a triple by Syd O'Brien, who also crossed the plate on a single by Rudy May.
Tigers 2, Royals 1 at Detroit (day game):
Norm Cash homered on successive trips to the plate in the fourth and sixth innings to power the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Royals. Red Sox 4, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (day game):
The batting of Reggie Smith, who accounted for all Boston runs with a homer and two singles, enabled the Red Sox to defeat the Brewers, 4-2, for their sixth straight victory. Sonny Siebert, who pitched the first seven innings for the Red Sox, won his fifth game in a row.
Twins 9, Senators 2 at Minnesota (day game):
