Series about a family living in the Blue Ridge Mountain area of Virginia during the Depression years; their hopes, desires and relationships and the people who make up their community. The family was introduced in the TV movie pilot, "The Homecoming" which was based on the 1963 movie, "Spencer's Mountain". In the first episode, a woman abandons her young daughter on the Waltons' doorstep without her husband's knowledge, and the head of the house feels he must turn the child over to the county home.

Series returns for a fifth season. Pete, Linc and Julie, the young investigators, join a police sergeant on the case when Capt. Greer is wounded in escorting a prisoner from Chicago.

Flip opens his third season. In skits, Flip plays a TV floor manager who has to cope with Benny's desire to pad his part in a commercial as well as Pearl's penchant for taking over the camera; Flip and Pearl play a married couple whose poor financial situation forces them to take in a boarder; Flip appears as hard-boiled newsman Stafford Cripps. The Muppets do a sketch called "The Dance Palace". Miss Bailey sings "It Only Takes a Moment".

Sixth season begins with a two-part episode which concludes on The Bold Ones. Chief Ironside's assistant, Det. Sgt. Ed Brown, is shot down because he possesses incriminating evidence which could lead to the conviction of a drug peddler. Brown becomes a patient at Craig Institute where he faces spinal surgery.

Season 8, episode 1

With Gene Kelly, Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Martin opens his eighth season with returning regulars Kay Medford, Lou Jacobi and the Ding-a-Ling Sisters. New regulars are Rodney Dangerfield, Nipsey Russell and Dom DeLuise. In a new segment, Dean walks his pet (Tiger Lady) in the park each week, where he meets his guest and his pet. Nipsey and Dom are barbers who host Dean and his guest. Rodney performs in a nightclub setting. The feature skit has Dean and Gene as soldiers trying to get the enemy to make love, not war.
