With Sonny Bono, Carol Burnett, Phyllis Diller, Andy Griffith, Bob Hope, Peter Lawford, Jim Nabors, Forrest Tucker. Ken Berry is the star-host of a musical-variety special featuring comedy vignettes by guest stars. The hour also showcases Berry in comedy sketches and musical production numbers. Berry plays a ski lodge owner who uses local talent for a big show; during a war protest sketch, Ken plays "Everyman" dogged by battles and catastrophes. Then he dances a salute to New York City and introduces two of his children in a "Green, Green Grass of Home" segment.

James Garner stars as a former cavalry officer who is conned into becoming sheriff of an unruly Arizona town in 1914. He doesn't want to be a lawman, hates violence and doesn't carry a gun. In the opening episode, Nichols returns to the town of Nichols (founded by his family) and finds it controlled by a tough and powerful rancher.
