ABC initiates its NFL Monday night season coverage with a National Conference Central Division match between the two leading candidates to reach the playoffs - the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions. The Vikings nabbed quarterback Norm Snead from Philadelphia in an off-season trade. Snead can throw the bomb. Minnesota has additional strength at this position with Gary Cuozzo. The Vikes also have a superlative defense. Detroit probably has the best offensive team in the division, and quarterback Bill Munson had an outstanding preseason record. Excellent pass defense and good set of linebackers make the Lions a formidable team. Frank Gifford, Don Meredith and Howard Cosell report from Tiger Stadium, Detroit.
