Running back Booker Russell scored three one-yard touchdowns and Ira Matthews recorded a club-record 104-yard kickoff return as Oakland won its fifth game. Matthews' kickoff return came after San Diego pulled to within nine points on quarterback Dan Fouts' one-yard touchdown plunge. Fouts (21 of 37 for 303 yards and two touchdowns) became the first NFL passer to record four straight 300-yard games.
