Earl Campbell's three-yard touchdown run capped a 16-point fourth-quarter rally that gave Houston a come-from-behind victory. Trailing 27-13 early in the fourth quarter, Houston began the comeback on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dan Pastorini to Billy (White Shoes) Johnson. After Toni Fritsch's 26-yard field goal trimmed Washington's lead to 27-22, safety Bill Currier recovered a fumble at the Redskins' 29 to set up Houston's winning drive. Campbell had a career high 32 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
