Tom Dempsey's 19-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining gave the Rams a 31-28 edge over the Dolphins following a second half comeback from a 14-0 deficit. James Harris, 17 of 29 for 436, threw third quarter touchdown passes of 58 and 43 yards to Ron Jessie and then ran over from the one in the fourth period to tie Miami 21-21. Lawrence McCutcheon's nine-yard run gave Los Angeles the lead 28-21 before Bob Griese tied it up again on a seven-yard scoring pass to Nat Moore. Miami had two possessions between the tying TD and Dempsey's field goal, but both ended with Rams interceptions. Harris's 426 net yards passing and Los Angeles' total offensive yardage of 593 both set records for Dolphin opponents.
