Rookie running back Mike Thomas, who rushed for 100 yards after entering the game and giving the Washington attack a lift in the second period, bolted one yard into the end zone 4:02 into the final period to snap a 17-17 tie. With 5:53 left, Mark Moseley kicked a 34-yard field goal following Chris Hanburger's interception, the Redskins' fifth takeaway, to clinch the victory which kept Washington in second place in the NFC East, one game ahead of St. Louis.
