A two-run pinch-homer by Jorge Orta with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning enabled the Dodgers to edge the Expos, 2-1. Orta's blast was his first National League homer after he played 10 years in the American League.

Winning pitcher Jerry Reuss, coming off back-to-back shutouts, yielded only an unearned run and improved his ERA to 1.64. A throw to the plate by Dusty Baker in the ninth inning prevented Montreal from tying the game as the Los Angeles left fielder nailed Warren Cromartie at home after a one-out single by Tim Wallach.
