The decisive runs came on a throwing error as the Padres rallied for four runs in the eighth inning and extended their winning streak to 10 straight by beating the Braves, 6-4. With one out in the eighth and the Braves ahead, 4-2, Broderick Perkins walked and pinch-hitter Randy Bass was hit by a pitch. Dave Edwards ran for Bass and Gene Richards singled to left, scoring Perkins and bringing on Rick Camp in relief of Gene Garber.

A single by Juan Bonilla scored Edwards and Richards went to third and Bonilla to second on the throw. After Garry Templeton was walked intentionally, Ruppert Jones hit a chopper in front of the mound. Camp fielded the ball but threw it past catcher Matt Sinatro, allowing Richards and Bonilla to score. [The Sporting News]
