The Cardinals snapped a 10-game losing streak at the hands of their nemesis Steve Carlton in beating the Phillies, 5-2. The Redbirds loaded the bases in the second inning on walks to George Hendrick and Gene Tenace wrapped around a single by Sixto Lezcano.

A single by Mike Ramsey drove in one run, a single by Garry Templeton plated two more and a single by Tommy Herr capped the outburst. John Martin hurled the first seven frames to puck up the win and Bruce Sutter came on to record his 13th save, tops in the N.L. [The Sporting News]
