. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Bill Buckner broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning, sending the Cubs to a five-run inning that produced a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The Cubs ended their 12-game losing streak and snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Cardinals.

The second game was suspended because of darkness with the score tied, 2-2, after 11 innings and was scheduled to be resumed July 3. (The game was never resumed and went into the official records as a tie). [The Sporting News]
