Making his major league debut, John Martin pitched seven innings of five hit relief to lead the Cardinals to a 10-2 victory over the Astros. The Redbirds broke the game open with a five-run barrage in the third inning.

After the first two runs scored, the Astros passed Terry Kennedy intentionally, loading the bases, in order to pitch to Ken Reitz, who wrecked the strategy with a three-run double. [The Sporting News]
