Jim Spencer drove in three runs with a single and double during an eight-run second inning that gave the Yankees a 9-6 victory over the Tigers. The Yanks sent 13 batters to the plate in the second and collected nine hits.

Reggie Jackson singled home a pair of runs and Bobby Brown, Bucky Dent and Lou Piniella also knocked in runs. The Tigers scored five times in the sixth inning, the big blow being a grand slam by Ricky Peters, his first major league homer. It was the third game in a row that the Yanks had at least 15 hits.
