Pinch-hitting, Oscar Gamble homered with two men on base in the ninth inning to cap a four-run rally and bring the Yankees a 5-2 victory over the Indians. With the Indians leading, 2-1, George Scott singled to open the Yankee rally.

The Indians removed starter Rick Waits and brought in Sid Monge, who failed in relief. After Chris Chambliss flied out, pinch-hitter Reggie Jackson and Juan Beniquez both walked to load the bases.
