Rick Sutcliffe held the Reds hitless for 6 1/3 innings before yielding three singles while pitching the Dodgers to a 2-0 victory. The rookie righthander raised his record to 15-9, but the complete game was only his fourth of the season.

Sutcliffe counted the first run, drawing a walk in the second inning and scoring on singles by Davey Lopes and Bill Russell. The Dodgers added their other marker on singles by Steve Garvey and Ron Cey, a pass to joe Ferguson and infield hit by Derrel Thomas in the eighth. Cey's hit was the 1,000th of his career.
