Mike Schmidt doubled, advanced to third on a groundout and scored the deciding run on a wild pitch by Neil Allen in the eighth inning as the Phillies held off the Mets, 2-1. Steve Carlton blanked the Mets until the ninth when Tug McGraw relieved with one out, one run in and the bases full. Doug Flynn flied to center field and Greg Gross threw out Joel Youngblood trying to score after the catch to end the game. [The Sporting News]
