Although needing relief help, Fred Norman received credit for his 100th career victory as the Reds shaded the Giants, 6-5. After a two-run homer by Mike Ivie gave the Giants a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning, the Reds went ahead in the bottom of the frame on a two-run homer by George Foster and added an insurance marker in the seventh on a double by Dan Driessen.
