With two out, Mickey Rivers scored from first base on a hit-and-run single by Buddy Bell in the seventh inning to bring the Rangers a 5-4 victory over the Red Sox. Butch Hobson drove in two runs for the Red Sox with a single and homer. Willie Montanez batted in a run for the Rangers with a double in the first inning and tied the score at 4-4 with a homer in the sixth.

Rivers singled in the seventh. After Bump Wills and Al Oliver flied out, Bell looped his single and picked up his second RBI of the game when the speedy Rivers scored. [The Sporting News]
