A four-run outburst in the eighth inning gave the Pirates a 4-1 triumph over the Dodgers. With one out in the eighth, Steve Nicosia doubled and was replaced by pinch-runner Matt Alexander, who scored on a pinch-hit single by Willie Stargell.

Ed Ott ran for Stargell, moved to second on a walk to Omar Moreno and both runners came home on a double by Phil Garner. A single by Bill Robinson capped the rally. [The Sporting News]
