Dennis Leonard pitched a four-hitter and Willie Wilson raced out his fourth inside-the-park homer of the year to lift the Royals to a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox. Wilson, leading off in the first inning against Mike Torrez, lashed a drive down the left field line and circled bases when the ball got past Jim Rice.

Wilson, the Royals' left fielder, also turned in the defensive play of the game. After Carl Yastrzemski doubled in the fifth inning for the 2,989th hit of his career, Dwight Evans singled to left. Yastrzemski tried to score and was gunned down on a throw by Wilson. [The Sporting News]
