Junior Kennedy walked with one out in the ninth inning and scored from first base on a double by Dave Concepcion to bring the Reds a 4-3 victory over the Mets. Johnny Bench singled and scored in the second inning and homered for the Reds in the fourth before Frank Taveras hit his first homer of the season for the Mets in the sixth.

After the Reds made it 3-1 in the eighth, the Mets tied the score with two out in the ninth when John Stearns hit a two-run homer. It was only the fifth hit off Mike LaCoss, who came out a winner on the Kennedy-Concepcion combo in the Reds' half of the ninth. [The Sporting News]
