Celebrating his 26th birthday with a five-hitter, Nino Espinosa pitched the Phillies to a 3-2 triumph over the Reds. The Phils scored twice in the second inning on a single by Bob Boone, triple by Larry Bowa and single by Espinosa. The eventual winning run came in the fifth when Greg Luzinski singled, advanced to second on an infield out and came home on a single by Garry Maddox. [The Sporting News]
