The Dodgers built an early 6-0 lead and then hung on to edge the Cardinals, 6-5. Winning pitcher Rick Sutcliffe singled home a run in the second inning. After a double by Steve Yeager and single by Bill Russell added a tally in the third, Sutcliffe ignited a four-run rally in the seventh with a double.

Davey Lopes walked and Russell singled to score Sutcliffe. Steve Garvey sacrificed and Ron Cey drew a pass to load the bases. Dusty Baker stroked a two-run single and Von Joshua hit an infield single for the deciding marker. [The Sporting News]
