The Padres blanked the Giants, 4-0, on a four-hitter by John D'Acquisto. Giant miscues handed the Padres all their runs in the ninth inning. Leadoff batter Dave Winfield reached first on an error by Giants' shortstop Johnnie LeMaster. After a walk to Jerry Turner, a single by Gene Tenace scored Winfield. Dan Briggs then walked and Gary Lavelle replaced Greg Minton on the hill for the Giants.

Kurt Bevacqua bounced a potential double-play grounder to LeMaster, who let the ball go through him as two runs scored. The final run of the inning came home on a balk by Lavelle. [The Sporting News]
