The Red Sox trundled out their heavy artillery and bombed the Indians, 12-3. The cannonading began when Jim Rice bashed a solo homer in the second inning. The Red Sox scored six times in the sixth. Carlton Fisk belted a bases-empty round-tripper to begin the outburst. A double by Fred Lynn, walk to Rice and single by Bob Watson delivered another tally.

After Carl Yastrzemski was hit by pitch, Butch Hobson greeted reliever Paul Reuschel with a bases-clearing triple. The final run of the frame scored on an error by Tribe third sacker Toby Harrah. Lynn added a solo homer in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
