After the Indians won the first game of a doubleheader, 6-2, the Rangers enjoyed a 14-3 scoring spree in the second game. The Indians got all the runs they needed in the first inning of the opener. Cliff Johnson belted a three-run homer.

Ranger rookie Danny Darwin tossed a four-hitter in the nightcap for his first major league complete game. The Rangers scored five times in the fourth inning. Two counted on a double by Pat Putnam and another on a single by John Ellis before an error and a sacrifice fly by Larvell Blanks produced an additional pair.
