Mike LaCoss scattered five hits in the first seven innings and Doug Bair yielded only one hit in the last two frames to combine in a shutout as the Reds defeated the Braves, 2-0. The Reds scored their initial run off Phil Niekro in the sixth.

Joe Morgan singled, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher Bruce Benedict and crossed the plate on a grounder by Dave Concepcion. Johnny Bench walked and Concepcion and Ray Knight singled for the other run in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
