. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Cubs posted a pair of wins over the Reds, 9-8 in 18 innings, and 2-1. The first contest was the completion of a game suspended from May 10 with the score tied, 7-7, after nine innings. The Cubs won in the bottom of the 18th when Ken Henderson stroked a leadoff single and took second on a sacrifice. After an intentional walk to Dave Kingman, Steve Ontiveros singled to plate Henderson with the winning run. An RBI single by Junior Kennedy in the top of 11th had given the Reds an 8-7 lead but the Cubs tied it in the bottom of frame on singles by Bill Buckner, Kingman and Ontiveros.

In the second game, the Reds carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth when Larry Biittner hit a leadoff single. Pinch-runner Miguel Dilone stole second. Kingman then belted the ball over the left field wall for a two-run homer that won the game. [The Sporting News]
