An eight-run explosion in the third inning propelled the Phillies to a 10-3 victory over the Dodgers. The Phils loaded the bases in the third with a single by Randy Lerch and walks to Bake McBride and Larry Bowa.

A walk to Pete Rose forced in one run and after Mike Schmidt struck out, Bob Boone singled home two tallies. A double by Del Unser made it 5-0. Greg Gross walked and Manny Trillo stroked a run-scoring single. Lerch then bunted to reliever Jerry Reuss, who threw wildly to first, Gross and Trillo scoring on the error. [The Sporting News]
