Pedro Borbon, who made his first appearance in a San Francisco uniform, pitched one inning in relief against his former teammates and came out with a victory when the Giants rallied to defeat the Reds, 6-4. The Reds held a 4-1 lead before the Giants tied the score with three runs in the seventh. Willie McCovey batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single, giving him three RBIs for the game, and Darrell Evans added a run with a single.

The Giants then broke the deadlock in the eighth. With one out, Mike Sadek and Larry Herndon singled. Bill North forced Herndon at second, but Mike Ivie came up as a pinch-hitter and singled for the tie-breaking tally. Jack Clark followed with a single for an insurance run. [The Sporting News]
