Extending their winning streak to six games, the Royals came from behind to down the A's, 7-6. The Royals trailed, 6-5, going into the bottom of the ninth, when Jamie Quirk began the winning rally with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner U.L. Washington. A sacrifice moved Washington to second and after George Brett was walked intentionally, Amos Otis tied the game with a single to center.

After Darrell Porter received an intentional pass to load the bases, Jim Todd replaced Dave Heaverlo on the hill for the A's. Al Cowens ripped Todd's first serve into right field to plate Brett with the winning run. [The Sporting News]
