The Astros rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to edge the Reds, 6-5. The Reds led, 5-1, going into the bottom of the eighth when Cesar Cedeno began the Astros' surge with a one-out single. After Jose Cruz walked and Enos Cabell struck out, pinch-hitter Denny Walling slammed a three-run homer to kayo Red starter Paul Moskau in favor of Doug Bair.

Alan Ashby singled and Rafael Landestoy walked before Jesus Alou lined a pinch-double off the left field wall to plate both runners. The Reds had taken an early lead on the strength of a pair of homers by George Foster, a three-run shot in the first inning and solo blast in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
