Paced by Champ Summers, who had a homer, two singles and three RBIs, the Tigers came from behind to defeat the Red Sox, 6-4. Summers cracked a solo homer in the second inning and a two-run single in the eighth inning.

The Tigers' winning rally in the eighth began when reliever Bill Campbell issued two-out walks to Steve Kemp and Jason Thompson. Dick Drago replaced Campbell and hit Lance Parrish with a pitch to load the bases. Summers followed with his two-run single and Aurelio Rodriguez greeted reliever Bob Stanley with a run-scoring single. Rodriguez belted a homer in the seventh inning following a single by Summers.
