The Rangers sent 12 men to bat and scored eight runs in the fifth inning for their most productive stanza of the season to defeat the Yankees, 9-5. Johnny Grubb batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single to ignite the outburst. A squeeze bunt by Billy Sample and a wild throw on the play by Ed Figueroa added two more. Al Oliver accounted for another pair with a homer.
