The Braves failed to hold a four-run lead in the ninth inning but then exploded for six runs in the 10th to defeat the Phillies, 11-5. The Phillies' tying tallies in the ninth were all unearned as the result of an error by Pepe Frias.

Pete Rose, who moved from first base to third for the Phillies at the start of the 10th, threw wild on a grounder by Jeff Burroughs to open the inning. Joe Nolan was hit by a pitch. After Rowland Office grounded into a forceout at third, Mike Lum walked to load the bases. Biff Pocoroba then broke the tie with a double, driving in two runs. Following an intentional pass to Brian Asselstine, the Braves added three runs on singles by Jerry Royster and Gary Matthews before Bob Horner added the final tally with a sacrifice fly.
