Pushing across a run in the eighth inning, the Cardinals scored their seventh consecutive victory, downing the Giants, 6-5. Tony Scott led off the inning with an infield hit and moved to second on a sacrifice by Ken Reitz. After Ken Oberkfell received an intentional pass, Gary Lavelle replaced Randy Moffitt on the mound for the Giants.

Pinch-hitter Lou Brock popped out, but Templeton followed with a single to plate Scott with the winning run. Two homers by Jack Clark and one by Larry Herndon had given the Giants a 5-3 lead before the Cards rallied to tie the score with four singles in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
