The Yankees scored three runs in the 11th inning to defeat the Brewers, 5-2, in a game marred by a violent collision between the Yankees' Cliff Johnson and plate umpire Lou DiMuro. Graig Nettles opened the Yankees' 11th with a single, Johnson walked and Chris Chambliss beat out a bunt to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Juan Beniquez scored Nettles and moved Johnson to third.

Bucky Dent then flied to center, scoring Johnson, whose momentum propelled him into a jarring crash with DiMuro. The umpire had to be taken off the field by an ambulance. Later, a hospital examination revealed no serious injury. Johnson suffered an apparent thumb injury on the play. After the delay, Rivers doubled in the third run of the inning. [The Sporting News]
