The Padres swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Braves, winning the first game, 6-3, and capturing the second game, 3-2. In the opener, a triple by Gene Tenace highlighted a three-run fifth inning that sparked the Padres to victory. A walk to Gene Richards and single by Winfield preceded Tenace's three-bagger. Tenace tallied on a single by Mike Hargrove.

In the nightcap, a single by Ozzie Smith in the eighth inning drove home the winning run. Bob Owchinko began the decisive surge by beating out an infield hit and Richards then drew a walk. Bill Almon ran for Owchinko and scored when Smith grounded the first pitch from Phil Niekro into right field. [The Sporting News]
