After knocking in two runs with a homer in the third inning, Gary Matthews batted in another pair with a single in the ninth to give the Braves a 5-4 victory over the Giants. The Braves' other run came on a single by Pepe Frias in the fourth, but the Giants, after trailing, 3-0, pecked away and went ahead in the eighth when Bill Madlock homered.

In the Braves' ninth, Charlie Spikes hit a pinch-double and Jerry Royster was safe when losing pitcher Dave Roberts fumbled his bunt. Mike Lum then sacrificed before Matthews hit his winning single. [The Sporting News]
