Taking advantage of two errors, the Giants edged the Reds, 2-1. The Giants' first tally came in the fifth inning when Bill North reached second on a throwing error by shortstop Dave Concepcion and scored on a single by Terry Whitfield.

After the Reds tied the score, Mike Sadek opened the seventh with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Phil Nastu. After North walked, Dave Tomlin relieved starter Paul Moskau on the mound for the Reds and retired Whitfield on a foul pop. Pedro Borbon then replaced Tomlin and got Jack Clark to hit a pop fly behind second base, but Joe Morgan dropped the ball for an error and a run scored. [The Sporting News]
