Jon Matlack, who did not pitch until May 1 after being on the disabled list with elbow trouble, made his third start and gained his first victory of the season when the Rangers defeated the Blue Jays, 3-1. Billy Sample scored one run and drove in another in support of Matlack, who allowed six hits. The Rangers broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning on a pass to johnny Grubb, single by Jim Sundberg, infield out by Nelson Norman and single by Sample. [The Sporting News]
